- Pinder Jr., John J. b. June 7, 1912 d. June 6, 1944
World War II Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Technician Fifth Grade in the United States Army in the 16th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on June 6, 1944, near Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He was killed in action. His citation in part reads "On D-day, Pinder landed on the coast 100 yards offshore under devastating enemy machine gun fire and artillery fire which caused severe casualties among the boatload. Carrying a vitally important radio, he struggled towards shore in waist-deep water. Only a few yards from his craft he was hit by enemy fire and was gravely wounded. Pinder never stopped. He made shore and delivered the radio. Pinder, though terribly weakened by loss of blood and in fierce pain, on three occasions went into the fire-swept surf to salvage communication equipment. On the third trip he again was hit, suffering machine-gun bullet wounds in the legs. Remaining exposed to heavy enemy fire, growing steadily weaker, he aided in establishing the vital radio communications on the beach. While so engaged this dauntless soldier was hit for the third time and killed."

World War II Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps in the 8th Air Force. He was a Engineer and Ball Turret Gunner on a B-17. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on February 20, 1944 over enemy occupied Europe. He was killed in action. His citation in part reads "After observing the distressed aircraft from another plane, Sgt . Mathies' commanding officer decided the damaged plane could not be landed by the inexperienced crew and ordered them to abandon it and parachute to safety. Demonstrating unsurpassed courage and heroism, Sgt . Mathies and the navigator replied that the pilot was still alive but could not be moved and they would not desert him. They were then told to attempt a landing. After two unsuccessful efforts, the plane crashed into an open field in a third attempt to land. Sgt . Mathies, the navigator, and the wounded pilot were killed."

His citation in part reads "In the ensuing action, the enemy lobbed a grenade into the position and Sfc. Sitman, fully aware of the odds against him, selflessly threw himself on it, absorbing the full force of the explosion with his body. Although mortally wounded in this fearless display of valor, his intrepid act saved five men from death or serious injury, and enabled them to continue inflicting withering fire on the ruthless foe throughout the attack."

World War II Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army in Company G, 169th Infantry, 43d Infantry Division. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on January 12, 1945 at Pangasinan Province, Luzon, Philippine Islands. His citation in part reads "In the advance up the hill, he suffered additional wounds in both arms and legs, about the body and in the head, as grenades and TNT charges exploded near him. Three Japs rushed him with fixed bayonets, and he emptied the magazine of his machine pistol at them, killing two. He closed in hand-to-hand combat with the third, seizing the Jap's rifle as he met the onslaught. The two fell to the ground and rolled some 50 to 60 feet down a bank. When the dust cleared the Jap lay dead and the valiant American was climbing up the hill with a large gash across the head."
