Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Colonel Julien Edmond Victor Gaujot, US Army

Born at Keweenaw, Michigan, October 22, 1874, he earned the Medal of Honor while serving as Captain, Troop K, 1st United States Cavalry, at Aqua Prieta, Mexico, on April 13, 1911. The Medal was issued to him on November 23, 1911.


He remained in the Army, dying on April 7, 1938. He was buried in Section 6 of Arlington National Cemetery.

Michigan State Class of 1893; non-graduate, attended 1889-1890). Virginia Tech . Born 22 October 1874, Eagle Harbor, Keweenaw County, Michigan. Died 7 April 1938, Radford, Virginia. Buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Brother of A. A. M. Gaujot. Offically listed as Julien E. Gaujot, he was Captain, commanding Troop K, 1st Cavalry when he won his medal at Aqua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, 13 April 1913. His medal was approved 23 November 1912 and awarded by President Taft at the White House the following month (one of the earliest of White House presentations). He retired from the Regular Army in 1934 with the rank of Colonel.

CITATION:

Crossed the field of fire to obtain the permission of the rebel commander to receive the surrender of the surrounded forces of Mexican Federals and escort such forces, together with 5 Americans held as prisoners, to the American line.
