Interim Awards Double Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Captain of the Hold Louis Williams, US Navy
One of only 19 United States servicemen to be awarded the Medal of Honor twice, and one of only 14 to be awarded the United States' highest military honor for two separate actions. US Navy Peacetime Double Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. His real name was Ludwig Andreas Olsen, and he served in the United States Navy. He was one of only a handful of men in the history of the United States Military to be awarded the Medal of Honor twice for separate incidents, which happened while he was serving as Captain of the Hold on board the "USS Lackawanna". The first incident was on March 16, 1883. The citation for that reads "For jumping overboard from the U.S.S Lackawanna, at Honolulu, T.H., and rescuing from drowning Thomas Moran, landsman". The second incident happened on June 13, 1884. That citation reads "Serving on board the U.S.S. Lackawanna, Williams rescued from drowning William Cruise, who had fallen overboard at Callao Peru. Both Medals were awarded to him on October 18, 1884.
