Virginia Military Institute Recipients
Military and Civilian Accomplishments of National Importance
Since 1839 VMI alumni have helped mold the history of America. Among the ranks of the alumni are Nobel Prize recipients, Pulitzer Prize winners, Polar Explorers , Movie Stars, National, State and Local Political and Civic Leaders.
Considering the small size of the college (1,300 total student body) this accomplishment
and record of service is perhaps more incredible.
VMI has produced ten Rhodes Scholars.
Seven alumni have been awarded the Medal of Honor

The Medal of Honor
Seven VMI alumni have received the Medal of Honor, the highest and most rarely awarded decoration conferred by the United States. The medal is presented for "personal bravery or self sacrifice...involving the risk of life."
