Alberto Diaz from BSCReview.com wrote up a retrospective on the original Medal of Honor for the original PlayStation -- the game that started it all. In the article, Diaz gives a brief overview for the game and describes why it resonated with audiences from 1999 and how the original Medal of Honor influenced the direction of console shooters today.

Diaz points out some of the best features of the game and praises the musical score from Michael Giacchino (Lost, Star Trek, Speed Racer), creating something that, according to Diaz, is a landmark game. "The sound, especially the utterly fantastic score by Oscar- and Emmy-award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, truly stands out, and it’s been a hallmark of the franchise ever since. The guns still sound powerful, and while explosions may not look great, they sound deep and thunderous. In the sound department, Medal of Honor still holds up to games today."
The article also makes note of Medal of Honor Underground, the direct sequel to the 1999 original, admiring it for being a substantially better game than its successor in nearly every way, including updated visuals, more missions and a new (and entirely likeable) lead character Manon Batiste. "In the end, the original Medal of Honor (and its sequel/prequel Underground) are still engaging to play, even 11 years after their release. I was stunned at how playable the games were…"
