Owning the Night

Every service in the Armed Forces operates at night. Therefore all of the services are equipped with Night Vision Goggles. We truly own the night. Whether it’s on midnight patrol in a foreign country, or bringing in your helicopter into a “hot” landing zone for extraction, the use of NVGs is a life saver.

The War of Helicopters

It was a cold Feburary flight in the US Coast Guard MH-65C Dolphin helicotper. Myself and two former US Army pilots were flying from New Jersey to Florida in support of the last night launch of the space shuttle.

As with all things, perception is reality and the historic reality of the military seems to revolve around foul mouth roughnecks looking to find any reason to fire up the enemy but what if I told you that the stereotype is so far from the truth that many in the military and those that have served find it both laughable and insulting.
